"HD Supply opens Alabama distribution center, creates 50 jobs"
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - San Diego-based HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, a national distributor of maintenance and repair products, has opened its first Alabama operation at Shelby Commerce Park in Calera. The 350,000 squarefoot distribution center has 50 employees with plans to add more as it boosts its presence here.
The new warehouse is the 43rd in the HD Supply's North American operations.
"We are excited to open our Birmingham-area distribution center, an important addition to our network of (distribution centers) throughout the United States and Canada," Anesa Chaibi, chief executive of HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, said in a statement. "This new distribution center allows us to continue to improve our local support for customers in the Southeast, including Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle."
Having a major supplier of maintenance, repair and operations products to owners and managers of multifamily, hospitality, educational and commercial properties as well as healthcare providers and municipal and government facilities is a boost to Shelby Commerce Park and the Birmingham metro's upper-end distribution center market, according to Ogden Deaton, the Graham & Co. broker who handled the deal.
"This deal is significant because it is a very large new user to our market and it helps stabilize the class-A bulk market," Deaton said. "Activity has really picked up this year and the warehouse market is definitely moving in a positive direction.
